We understand your life is busy. Our dispatchers will call you when our HVAC technician is actually on his or her way, so you don’t have to wait at home.

Our expert technicians start with a thorough evaluation of your furnace equipment. We’ll diagnose the immediate problem but also examine the entire heating system to determine if there are any underlying issues or potential hazards.

Chicago Furnace Tune-Ups

Just One Maintenance Appointment a Year Can Lower Your Heating Costs, Prevent Breakdowns & Improve Safety

Having your furnace maintained every year pays off in increased efficiency, lower energy bills, and longer equipment life. An annual inspection can identify small issues that can turn into big headaches if your furnace breaks down right when you need it most.

Safety is also a concern with your furnace. The combustion process needs to be checked yearly to ensure safe operation. Gas leaks, high carbon monoxide levels, and improper drafting can be dangerous if not addressed.

Get peace of mind by scheduling your furnace tune-up now.

What’s Included in Your Furnace Tune-Up?

Our licensed HVAC technician will start by asking you a few brief questions about your system’s performance and if you have any specific concerns. From there, he or she will perform an inspection and tune-up of the entire system, not just the outdoor unit.

What’s a combustion analysis?

Unlike many companies doing furnace and boiler inspections, every heating system tune-up done by Althoff Industries includes a combustion analysis. We do it because it’s the only reliable way to assure the efficient and safe operation of your gas fired appliance.

Our technicians are equipped with an electronic combustion analyzer that measures oxygen and carbon monoxide levels along with the temperature of the flue gas. This information is important for the following reasons.

  • The first priority is to assure your safety by making sure carbon monoxide levels aren’t excessively high. Levels that are outside of the manufacturer guidelines can be dangerous.
  • It helps us uncover hidden problems that are impossible to diagnose without a combustion analyzer.
  • It allows us to accurately measure the efficiency of your furnace. Are you truly getting 90+% efficiency out of your furnace? The only way to know is to measure.
  • It allows us to correct issues related to over firing and under firing. Both cause poor performance and shortened lifespan of your equipment.

Why is testing draft important?

Draft is required to remove the flue gasses from the heat exchanger on all atmospheric and draft induced appliances. Verifying draft and checking for spillage is an important safety consideration. All Althoff technicians are equipped with draft gauges that specifically measure draft pressure inside the flue. If improper draft is found, the cause should be remedied to protect the homeowners from carbon monoxide but also proper operation of the equipment.

Do I Need a New Furnace?

Our experience tells us that the average unit life expectancy in our area is 15 years. If your equipment is over 10 years old and facing any of the reasons below, you should consider replacing instead of repairing.

If your furnace is starting to need repairs on an almost annual basis, it’s near the end of its lifespan.

Repairs to your furnace that are outside of the manufacturer parts warranty can be very costly. Motor replacements can cost between $500 - $1,000. Heat exchanger replacements can be $2,500+.

Do you have a hard time keeping your home warm? This could be the sign of an aging furnace, or even an incorrectly sized system. Regardless of the cause, you want your home heating system to do its job!

According to Energy Star, “Energy Star certified furnaces have higher Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratings and higher efficiency blower motors making certified gas furnaces, on average, over 10 percent more efficient than standard models.”
